Protection, comfort, and feel for confident casting
With Free Spirit well known for casting rods, and Mark Hutchinson and other consultants actively teaching casting techniques for extreme ranges, developing a dedicated Casting Finger Stall was a logical step. The aim was straightforward: create something hard-wearing enough to protect the casting finger from the harshest braids, while remaining soft enough to maintain feel throughout the cast.
Several prototypes were developed before being taken to Parco del Brenta for extensive testing. With regular spodding required to keep the action going, it provided an ideal environment to put the design through sustained use. The final prototypes lasted for a full week of almost continuous casting and spodding, proving the durability needed before the finished design was launched.
The finger section uses soft leather to provide protection where it matters most, while breathable mesh material across the back helps keep the stall lightweight and comfortable. The design can be worn by either right- or left-handed anglers, making it a simple and practical addition to any casting set-up.

Important Casting Note
Always fully lock the drag on your reel before casting, particularly when using braid. A slipping spool under heavy casting pressure can cause a serious cut to the casting finger.
Two versions are available. The Standard Casting Finger Stall features a blue stripe across the back, while the Reflective version incorporates a reflective strip to make the stall easier to locate at night with a head torch.
